Is AI going to take over the world that humanity has built over centuries?
Over time, we’ve seen the topic of AI and an apparently impending doom be addressed - through movies, music, tv shows, podcasts, and self-proclaimed experts on social media. And while their concern isn’t entirely displaced, the future isn’t as dystopian as it’s made out to be.
Let’s take a step back and look at trends that were feared once but are now a part of our everyday lives. Smartphones, tech-powered health devices, robots that clean our homes; every new invention is often met with scepticism, until it proves its usefulness and turns ‘want’ into ‘need’.
Another larger topic of debate is the loss of human-centric jobs to technology. Can AI truly abolish the need for a human at all? Could it lead to a steep rise in unemployment?
In its recent ‘Future of Jobs Report’, the World Economic Forum estimated that AI will replace some 85 million jobs by 2025. The same report, however, concluded that some 97 million new jobs would be created in the same time frame due to AI. And this is believable to a large extent, because industries and sub-industries are constantly growing their efforts in both product and service creation.
Enter ChatGPT, the new anti-hero of the AI world.
ChatGTP takes simple, text-led instructions and produces comprehensive responses in the form of articles, paragraphs, and more - all in a matter of seconds. In terms of the time of output, a human cannot compete with that. However, there’s also areas where ChatGPT cannot compete with humans either.
There’s a ton of reasons like this that spell out why softwares like ChatGPT are tools that can enhance and aid, but not replace. And it’s not entirely a narrative of ‘us vs. it’. AI can, and should, be utilised by humans to create a larger abundance of a resource that we cannot control (yet) - Time.
Here’s why we think AI could become the sidekick we learn to live with:
Don’t get us wrong, we don’t think AI is a knight in shining armour looking to save the universe. As it is with new advancements and technologies of all kinds, AI has its downsides too. The real question boils down to how we use AI, how much we let it penetrate into our lives, and where we draw the fine line between ‘human-powered’ and ‘AI enabled’.
Maybe the small glimpse of hope we can give you is that a human wrote this article, no AI involved. All it took was some trusted R&D, years of expertise, and an understanding of human trends that only another person could craft into something less mechanical, and more intriguing.
